Safety

Safety isn’t just a priority, it’s a core value that defines how we work, lead, and live. From empowering employees to speak up to implementing rigorous safety practices, our culture ensures everyone goes home safe, every day.

Safety in Every Task,
Every Day

At Montana Resources, safety is our paramount core value. No matter the complexity of the job, we believe that zero incidents are achievable through deliberate planning and unwavering focus. By creating a workplace where employees speak up, take responsibility, and look out for one another, we ensure that safety is not just a requirement, it’s a mindset.

“In mining, hazards are real, but our team knows how to assess and manage risks before acting. Every employee is empowered to speak up and look out for one another so we all arrive safe, work safe, and go home safe.”

Work Safe, Home Safe

COURAGEOUS LEADERSHIP
Started in 2007, Montana Resources has embraced the concept of Courageous Leadership. All employees must have the courage to speak up if anything is unsafe and have the courage to listen up if a co-worker identifies a safety concern.

FIELD LEVEL RISK ASSESSMENT (FLRA)
FLRA is a safety process completed before starting any job or task. Its purpose is to break down the job into steps, identify potential hazards at each step and implement controls to minimize or eliminate risks.

CPKC SAFE SHIPPER
Montana Resources was recognized by CPKC with the 2025 Safe Shipper Award, acknowledging safe transportation of hazardous materials with zero non-accidental releases while meeting rigorous performance standards.

STOP WORK RESPONSIBILITY
Every employee, contractor, and visitor have both the right and the responsibility to stop work if they believe a task is unsafe. This is a cornerstone of our safety culture – no task is so urgent that it cannot be done safely.

TRAINING
Training is a constant. A day doesn’t go by without some form of training being conducted at Montana Resources. From safety meetings to task training on equipment and process, it never stops.

WORKPLACE EXAMINATIONS
Before any work begins, a Workplace Examination must be completed. This essential step ensures the work area is safe, hazards are identified, and effective controls are in place to protect everyone on site.
